Week of June 21, 1976  ·  Palm Springs Padel Club

Members,

The first official day of summer arrived this week.

Nobody noticed.

This is not unusual.

The club has always measured time differently.

Elsewhere, people count days by calendars and clocks. Here, they count them by matches, sunsets, and whether they should have gone home two drinks ago.

Court Three remains fully booked.

Several members have suggested this is becoming a problem.

Management agrees.

Management has no intention of fixing it.

The Sunset Bar remains busy.

Rafael reports that margarita consumption is significantly ahead of forecast.

Rafael also reports that nobody has ever asked to see the forecast.

Founders Weekend preparations continue.

Arthur has informed everyone that there will be no speeches.

This is the fifth year he has announced this.

The microphone has already been ordered.

In golf news, the Desert Nine remains exactly nine holes despite repeated suggestions that it should be eighteen.

The founders continue to believe lunch is more important than the back nine.

The committee agrees.

There is no committee.

Song of the Week

Dreams — Fleetwood Mac

Best enjoyed on the terrace after a match that should have ended an hour earlier.

🍸

The Founders Margarita

Tequila. Fresh lime. Triple sec. No improvements have been made since 1971.

🎾

On the Courts

Court Three — Fully Booked

Management considers this a success. Management also considers this someone else's problem.

On the Golf Course

The Desert Nine

Still nine holes. Lunch remains more important than the back nine. The committee agrees. There is no committee.

Weather Report

☀️ Hot. Getting Hotter.

Pool recommended. Members are ignoring this advice.

Member Reminder

If somebody invites you onto Court Three, accept.

If somebody offers you one more drink, consider it carefully.

If somebody tells you a story that sounds impossible, it probably happened.

"

The match is how you arrive. The Club is why you stay.
